The shocking truth about many online courses
A few weeks ago I attended a webinar titled, "Effortlessly Make Six Figures Selling Online Classes"... the word "effortlessly" grabbed my attention.
After all, I've been in the online course space going on four years now and it's been anything BUT "effortless".
The guy running the webinar told everyone on the call how easy it is for ANYONE to make 100K plus with very little knowledge or effort.
Ok...tell me the secret!
The shocking facts
He went on to tell us that he had recently worked with a new client who was burnt out from working over 30 years as an ER nurse.
She needed to continue to produce an income but was done with nursing. She had hired the guy running the webinar to help her create an online class.
He then proceeded to tell a story that really got under my skin.
The woman had no interests or hobbies outside of medicine so had no idea what kind of course to create.
He suggested a range of topics like cooking, fashion, gardening, crafting...but she wasn't interested in any of those topics.
She mentioned she liked photography but knew NOTHING about it and didn't even own a camera.
Can you see where this story might be going???
The roll of ChatGPT
He proceeded to show the webinar participants how with the aid of ChatGPT, he created a beginner, intermediate and advanced level photography class for this woman.
I felt so defeated...and angry.
Simply by entering a few prompts, ChatGPT spit out an entire online photography class.
This former nurse who knows ZERO about photography is now marketing and selling a photography program that Ai wrote!
To me, it's so deceptive but evidently the norm.
He told us another client made a series of books about dog training.
Not only did the person know nothing about dog training but never even owned a dog!!
This is our reality. Very little is real these days and integrity is evidently a thing of the past.
Now let me clarify that I have nothing against ai. I use it in my business all the time...but as an aid, not as a replacement for my experience, education and knowledge.
I spent over a year creating my Smartphone Photography class. I can guarantee you it was not churned out by ai.
Today you can't go on social media without seeing ad after ad selling online classes.
My eyes have been opened (and not in a good way) so my warning to you is, buyer beware.
Do your best to vet who is selling the class and make sure they actually know something about what they are teaching.
